9 Best Momo Joints in Kolkata

Got Momo Cravings? Check out this exclusive list where you can get the best momos in Kolkata.

What is a Momo? People are crazy about it.

The name Momo was taken from the Tibet, Mog Mogwhere it actually originated from, and means “Steamed Bun“. It is served with some sort of fillings, like diced meat, vegetables, cheese or some other ingredients. It is another form of a Dumpling or Dim Sum. The Tibetan dish spread to Bhutan, Nepal, Ladakh and the North Eastern India and became a favorite of the locals. The Momo shares its name with its South Eastern counterparts, like Mongolian Buuz, Korean Mandu, Japanese Gyoza and Chinese Jiaozi.

A Plateful of Momos in Nepal

To cater to the Palates of Indians, a lot of spices are added to the Momos and tastes best when served with a Spicy Garlic Chutney and Hot Clear Soup.

Let’s take a look at the 9 Best Momo Joints in Kolkata to satiate your Momo cravings.

Mainland China / Asia Kitchen by Mainland China

Asia Kitchen
Spinach and Water Chestnut Dumplings

In Mainland China in Silver Spring or Asia Kitchen in Acropolis Mall, the Dimsums are served with great care in wooden layered utensil, and steamed to perfection. The Water Chestnut and Spinach Dimsums tastes so good, that you can easily gobble down a whole plate. I personally love the ambiance here and couple it up with the Burnt Garlic Clear Soup, it is pure bliss.

Club Fenicia, Sector 5, Salt Lake

Charcoal Black and White Dumpling with Edible Gold Flakes

This dumpling was Out of this World. I had never tasted anything like this before. You would have to gorge down the entire dumpling in one go. The truffle sauce beneath the dumpling was incredible. The filling was just enough to create a magical experience. Perfect in taste and highly recommended. This is their signature dish.

Echoes, Topsia

Steamed Momos at Echoes, Topsia. Look at that Size!!

One of the biggest sized Momos in town, Echoes serves masterpieces of Dimsums. They are too big to believe that a Momo of this size is served in Kolkata. The fillings are great and the Chilli Onion Oil Sauce is too good to be true. Both the Veg and Non-Veg Options are worth the money.

Do check out my review of Echoes Kolkata, Topsia.

Street Food Momo, Exide Crossing

If you want to skip the hefty bills or wanna enjoy the Street Food of Kolkata, then this tiny street-side Momo joint is the best bang for the money in town, hands down. You could see a beeline of people waiting to lay their hands on a plate of delish momos and spicy soup. This place might be a strict No-No for those who keep an eye out for hygiene. The rampant non-stop services and continued loyalty from the customers makes this the best momo shop in Kolkata.

Unfortunately, this one is not on Zomato. So sharing the Google Map Location.

Another great street vendor that serves excellent momos in kolkata is this guy sitting at the crossing of Bentinck Street & Lenin Sarani. This guy has been there since ages and was my favorite haunt for my afternoon lunches or evening snacks.

The Blue Poppy Thakali, Camac Street

Open Faced Momos – So Beautiful, Eh?

I have not been here personally but heard a lot about it from my friends and fellow foodies. They have unique Open faced momos which are too beautiful to eat. A Nepali Restaurant, it serves mostly Pork Momos, but the Vegetarian ones are a big winner too. Ever heard of Aloo Cheese Momo?

Pa Pa Ya, Park Street

Papaya 1
Asparagus & Spinach Dimsums
Papaya 2
Sauteed Leeks and Water Chestnuts Dimsums

Momos in a fine dining restaurant becomes Dimsums. Well that’s the only difference I could figure out 🙂

The Momos are soft and delicate and would fall over a knife’s cut. Tastes extremely good and you just can’t stop at one. The Asparagus Dimsums and the Water Chestnut & Leek Dimsums are too good. I loved the plating too.

Momo Platter at Momo I Am. Source

One of the finest additions to the Chinese cuisines in Kolkata, Momo I Am has got so much to offer. The Momos are delicious, but the soup could have been better. Its a mid-sized restaurant serving all kinds of Momos, Baos, Soups, Thukpas and stuff. The steamed Momos are one of my favorites.

Try the Unique MoBurger (It has momos inside a Burger Bun).

Juice & Momo Corner, Salt Lake Swimming Pool

The Shop

Although you get only Vegetarian Momos here, you will still love the superb taste of these little cuties. The soup to go along with and the spicy sauce adds great taste to the Momos. It is a part of the Chat Hut counters in Salt Lake Swimming Pool area and attracts a huge crowd every evening.
