Sankalp Hotel is a restaurant chain serving South Indian and North Indian food and is known for making huge dosas and its dosa eating challenges. As far as I know, Sankalp chain is present in many cities in India, and even has a presence in the US, Australia and UAE. This full-sized restaurant is located in Godrej Waterside in Sector 5, Salt Lake, Kolkata, which already has a lot of good eateries. The ambiance is very bright and soothing and the seating is very comfortable.
We started off our trip down south with Crispy Cheese Idlis, as the name suggests, idlis were deep fried and served with grated cheese. It was not that great but served as a good munchy starter.
Going straight to the dosas, there were several ones ordered. First up was the Cheese Corn Dosa, a dosa stuffed with no cheese and lots of corn kernels and veggies. We had ordered for the Indian Bhaji Dosa that turned out to be quite tasty. Since these are fusion dosas, crispiness was at bay and tasted standard. We also had the Dosa Platter that had 3 mini dosas served, the Indian Bhaji, Corn & Cheese and the normal Masala Dosa. Nothing special here, but if one wants to taste 3 different varieties in one go, then this is definitely the item to order.
The Rava Dosa was fantastic. The Chutneys were fantastic. There were few options available, like the spicy garlic chutney and pure coconut chutney (not the watery one, but which had more pulp). The staff were great at their jobs and had attention on us while we were dining.
For the mocktails, we had the Caribbean Fruit Punch, which was nothing but fruit blossom, with chunks of diced apple. Another drink was the Blue Sea Surfer, a fancy name for Blue Curacao with Sprite.
