Five Mad Men (5MM), Sector 5, Kolkata

Eat, Drink and Smoke It Away @ 5MM!

The newest entrant in the gastro-play-pub category, 5MM is an instant hit in the city. Serving a vast spread of Indian, American, Continental and Chinese dishes, over a vast space, 5MM is a fun place to hangout with people you fancy.

Situated on the 1st floor of the Omega Building in Sector 5, Salt Lake, it serves Hookah in a massive sized room. They have valet parking too (the valet sits next to the Keventers stall) The decor has been done up well to accommodate indoor games like Foosball, Darts, Pool, Air Hockey and Carrom. There is a separate space just as you enter with French Windows for the day and hanging bulbs for the night. The inside space houses a massive Projector screen to view your favorite sport. There are other smaller screens in the establishment to keep you busy and have a sip of your fav drink. The walls have been synced with jerseys and other sports memorabilia. I personally liked the “Mirror Mirror on the Wall” thingy at the entrance, a must for clicking a groupfie or a selfie.

The staff is very responsive. They are always there to hear you out. The hookah served here is amazing. The food is overpriced to some extent. We had the Rajma Galawati kebab and Tandoori Aloo for the starters. The kebab, as it has to be, was a melt-in-mouth stuff. No biting or slicing required, let your tongue do the needful. Tandoori Aloo was also well prepared with the right mix of spices and pickled onions. They had a papad to top it off. Nice bit of addition.

For the drinks to accompany the Hookah, we chose Lost In The Mad Island, or the Long Island Iced Tea Pitcher. The pitcher containing the poison was very attractive. The cocktail was an absolute perfect drink; very fruity, very fresh.

Small plates to share were next. Grilled Cottage Cheese Steak with Pimento Rice made it to our table. The plating was done with some nifty touches. The combination of steaked paneer and rice complemented each other well. I would rather put it as average dish. I had heard that the Penne Pasta served here is truly good, so went by the word of mouth. I was so pleased to have it, since it was very well -prepared. Lovely taste.

5MM is bound to give a tough competition to the already established gastropubs of the city. It doesn’t fall short of being one of the best gastropubs in the city right now. Its a perfect place to hangout.
