A good place for Hookah lovers, but is it a good place for food lovers?
Mintelaa is a chique cafe, which serves food, mocktails and hookah till morning 3 a.m. everyday and has 3 outlets in the city. One in Southern Avenue, one in Alipore and the third here at Gorky Terrace. The facade of the cafe invites you to an aura of a fine-dining restaurant, with valet parking available and a brilliantly decorated entrance door. The place in itself is huge, with separate sections for Hookahs and Non-hookah patrons. But that’s that. Hookah is served everywhere inside the place, since this is the pull-point for its customers. There is an open kitchen here, which is well-decorated with hanging bulbs. The walls have also been done up well.
We were seated in a completely packed restaurant. Our area had a screen to view sports and a TV screen as well. The music being played was wonderful. So for the ambience, it is a good place to hangout.
We ordered a bunch of starters as we were a big group. It included White Sauce Pasta and Red Sauce Pasta. The two Pastas were strikingly contrasting to each other. The Red Sauce one was prepared perfectly with the right creamy texture, but the White Sauce was a waste. It lacked cheese and the pasta was not boiled properly. Don’t know why did that happen.
Next up was the Cheese Fondue. It was heavenly. It is a must try for all fondue lovers. In came the Crispy Chilly Baby Corn next, which was very ordinary and lacked taste. We had also ordered the Veg Platter, that included Jacket Potatoes, Hara Bhara Kebab, Seekh Kebab, Paneer Tikka and Tandoori Aloo, 2 pcs. each. All in all, the kebabs were okayish, with the Paneer and Hara Bhara Kebabs being dry.
There were a couple of mocktails to go by. We tried the Kiwi Mojito, Kitkat Oreo Shake and Brownie Shake. The mocktails were a major plus in the downstream of food. I really liked the Kiwi Mojito.
For the main course, it was Chilli Burnt Garlic Fried Rice. The portions of the fried rice were enough for 2 persons. It was a good preparation with a good amount of garlic strewn over the dish.
The major pluses here are the Hookah (they are not that extra-ordinary too!), Oreo Shake, Kiwi Mojito, ambience and Pasta. If you are looking for satiating your hunger pangs, then food might not be there to save you. If you are here to just have fun, play board games, watch sports or just listen to some music, while sipping on a Hookah, then Mintelaa is the place for you.
